Chancy & Teresa Meet Ron in Rochester
I'd told Ron when we met that I was a "package deal" and that it would never work if Chancy didn't like him. Chancy didn't warm up to people quickly, especially men, so... the pressure was on at our first meeting. Chancy kept an eye on him the first night, but didn't seem to dislike Ron, so I figured that was a good sign. Amazingly the next morning I awoke to find Chancy crawling up onto Ron's shoulders. This is something he only did with his favorite people and I'd never seen him do it with someone so quickly. It was meant to be. They were best of buddies from that day on. Although he loves animals, Ron had not particularly wanted a pet at this stage in life, but like so many others, he fell prey to Chancy's charms and soon couldn't imagine our world without him.
Chancy Loves Grandma and Grandpa...
Again, from the minute they stepped out of the car in NY, Chancy loved grandma and grandpa. He barked once then immediately knew they were family. Even when they'd not see him for a year or more, he remembered them instantly and got so excited. It was great the last couple of years when we lived close to them, so that the could puppy sit. Although Chancy preferred to have us all together, I always felt good leaving him there. They loved him as much as we did and spoiled him even rottener. As the saying goes... You can't spank grandma.
Mama's Boy
Chancy was definitely a mama's boy. When we first brought him home, Jimmy left immediately for an over seas trip. I had nearly a week alone with Chancy and the first couple of days, I wasn't quite sure what I was going to do with a dog following me around all the time. But... we bonded and in a big way. There was nothing I could do that I didn't first think about how it would affect Chancy. I committed to giving him a good life to the end and think that I succeeded. He was very loved.
Bonding With Dad
These two were best buds. Chancy respected Ron and for the most part listened to him. They were wrestling partners, boating partners, walking partners, and nap partners. It was so cute when I'd be asleep in the bedroom and I could overhear Ron in the living room having conversations with Chancy in the morning.
Chancy loved his walks around the NY villages with his family. He also loved chasing "critters" and deer and birds. He did not however, like getting caught in the instant downpours of the summer storms in Rochester. He enjoyed the snow when it wasn't too high, but we played hell getting him off the porch in the mornings. He'd rather "hold it" than have to find a place to poop in the snow.
